OUR GUESTS SAY:
With age comes
“do you remember”?
With “do you remember”
comes memories.
Camping memories. Africa travelling memories.
As blazing fires turns camping firewood into ashes, so does the fire of knowledge burn to ashes all reactions to material activities. Memories are all that is left behind.
May we never stop gathering firewood to serve as memories for those “do you remember” camping and traveling days.
Over many moons of travelling the Africa continent a dream started developing. With every trip that we planned, and every trip report that we did on our return, the dream just got stronger and stronger.
The dream was to settle down somewhere in the African bush far away from the huff and puff of city life, somewhere where we could enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the bush when we sit at a campfire or a quite spot in the bush listening to the sounds of bush life and enjoy the morning sunrise and afternoon sunsets.
Stilte (silence), is a game farm nestling in the bushveld north east of the Dinokeng Game Reserve a mere 55km kilometers from Pretoria. Stilte is the dream come true and the opportunity to share the same memorable and unique bushveld experience that we treasure so much with our guests.
With the sun setting and the transitioning for day to night the birds getting ready to settle in are music to your ears. Jackal starts calling their mates and you can hear the Nightjar calling and spot bushbabies at the same time. You might even hear a lion from the nearby Dinokeng Game Reserve or Mystic Monkeys at Rust De Winter.
Early in the morning, you can hear the experience the from night into day. The bush wakes up and you can tell by the birds which season it is. It is spring when the Southern Boubou (Waterfiskaal) starts calling. It is December when the Woodland Kingfisher (Bosveldvisvanger) starts courting the females. It is summer when the Fish Eagle starts calling for a mate. By the time it turns winter, the Woodpeckers arrive, and the Red-chested Cuckoo (Piet-my-vrou) turns silent. The hornbills are active all year round. It is bushveld paradise all year long. That is what makes Stilte so special.
Many other wild animals can be seen on the farm, including various tortoise species, scrub hares, warthog, kudu, duiker, impala, blesbok, njala and other small antelope. Stilte is a birders paradise with many species inhabiting the area. Fish Eagles have been spotted on the farm and you can hear their call during the mating season. Nesting sites for Crested Barbet, Woodland Kingfisher, and Hadeda Ibis have been identified.
As this farm is located just outside of the Dinokeng Reserve, the Big 5 are not found on the property, making it safe to drive, walk or cycle on the farm.
Guests are also provided the opportunity to visit the nearby Dinokeng Game Reserve where Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Lions and Cheetah have been spotted on the self-drive routes and even on the main road on the way to the Stilte. Keep your eyes peeled!
What a magical way to experience the bushveld and start building your own memories.
The Bush Hut is set within the bush and other campers cannot access it or disturb your peace and quiet. The Bush Hut is unfenced and game on the farm is free roaming.
Stilte is known for its deafening silence, amazing sunsets, and peaceful atmosphere. We are far away from bright lights and loud noises coming from surrounding lodges and villages.
